2015 COYOTE CONTEST RESULTS:
525 hunters participated in the statewide 3-day hunt and 45-coyotes were taken, 23-females & 22-males. Derek Rollins of Edmeston, NY hunting in Otsego County brought in the heaviest coyote a 48.80 lb. male. He hunted with the use of dogs and used a .223 cal. rifle. Derek received a check for $2,500 that included $2,000 for the heaviest, $200 for the heaviest on Sunday & $300 for three (3) more coyotes entered.
Billie West (female) from Elizaville, NY hunting in Columbia County brought in the heaviest coyote on Friday a 46.35 lb. male. She hunted over bait & used a 7MM.08 cal. rifle. She received a check for $300 that included $200 for the heaviest on Friday and $100 for getting the heaviest coyote of female hunters in the hunt.
William Martin III of Conklin, NY hunting in Delaware County brought in the heaviest coyote on Saturday a 44.90 lb. male. He hunted with dogs and used a .270 cal. rifle. William received a check for $400 that included $200 for the heaviest on Saturday and $200 for two (2) other coyotes entered.
There were 16-coyotes taken on Friday, 16 on Saturday & 13 on Sunday for a total of 45. Hunters bringing in more than one (1) coyote were: Derek Rollins-4, Bruce Brown-4, Chip Elwood-3, William Martin III-3, Deanina Sperano-3, Tim Yeager-2, Adam Ferber-2, William Mastro-2, Tim Brown-2, Justin Hartman-2, Philip Kavecki-2, Howard Rose III-2 & Peter Davis-2.
Method of Hunt: dogs-32, electronic calls-5, drive-1, bait-7 & mouth call-1. Guns used by successful hunters: 9MM Glock-2, .223-6, 12 ga.-5, 22-250-2, 22 mag.-5, 30.06-1, 22 LR-1, 7MM.08-1, 6MM-3, 220 Swift-2, 257 Wthrby-1 & 22 Hornet-1.
Counties where coyotes were taken: Otsego-13, Sullivan-12, Ulster-5, Schoharie-5, Delaware-4, Cortland-4, Dutchess-1 & Columbia-1. There were 32-counties with hunter participation. There were 9-hunters from Pennsylvania, 7 from New Jersey & one (1) from Maryland.
The average weight of coyotes was 36.55 lbs. & the average coyote body temperature was 87.56 degrees.
On Sunday everyone at the Coyote Banquet enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner served by the White Sulphur Springs firemen. President of the Federation of Sportsmenís Clubs of Sullivan County Jack Danchak emceed the banquet and thanked everyone for coming and said he is looking forward to seeing everyone next year at this great hunt.
