The 2014 3-day Coyote Contest was held on February 7, 8 & 9. 560 hunters were registered and 53 coyotes were taken. The heaviest & winning coyote weighed 49.30 lb. & was taken by Charles Wacha of Walton, NY hunting in Delaware County. Charles received $2,000 for the winning coyote & $200 for taking the heaviest coyote on Friday 2/7.
Charlie Avery of Honesdale, Pa. hunting in Sullivan County, NY received $200 for taking the heaviest coyote 45.05 lb. on Saturday 2/8 & another $100 for entering another coyote.
Nick Utter of Delhi, NY hunting in Delaware County received $200 for taking the heaviest coyote 45 lb. on Sunday 2/9.
The female hunter winner was Ariel Shaul of Cobleskill, NY hunting in Schoharie County took a 42.65 lb. coyote. Ariel received $300 that includes two coyotes and another $100 for the female hunter taking the heaviest coyote in the female hunter category.
33 males & 20 female coyotes were taken, average body temperature was 87.1 degrees, total weight of all coyotes were 1,961.06 lbs & the average weight per coyote was 36.08 lbs.
Coyotes were taken by the following methods: the use of dogs-35, electronic calls-10, over bait-5 & still hunting-3.
Calibers of guns used in taking a coyote: 12 ga.-11, .243-9, .22 mag-8, .223-8, 22-250-3, .270-2, .222-2, 7mm.08-2, .308-2, .22 hornet-1, 17 WSM-1, 6mm-1, 30.06=1, .280-1 & .204-1.
Counties where coyotes were taken: Otsego-15, Sullivan-9, Delaware-9, Ulster-8, Schoharie-4, Chenango-3, Madison-3, Orange-1 & Dutchess-1.
A total of 32 counties in New York State were registered in the hunt.
States per hunters in the hunt: New York-520, Pennsylvania-15, New Jersey-1 & Maryland-1.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious roast beef dinner at the Coyote Banquet held on Sunday 2/9 at the new White Sulphur Springs firehouse served by the White Sulphur Springs firemen.
